Montana DUI Reform Summit Brings Statewide Conversation to Kalispell

Impaired driving continues to take lives, devastate families and challenge communities across Montana.

On Thursday, September 3, Representative Courtenay Sprunger will host the Montana DUI Reform Summit at Flathead Valley Community College to bring together the people working closest to the issue — and the community members whose voices should help shape future solutions.

The free public event will run from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Arts & Technology Building at FVCC. An immersive DUI Experience will be open from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., followed by speakers and expert panel discussions beginning at 6:00 p.m. A complimentary light meal will also be served.

The summit will bring together law enforcement, prosecutors, members of the judiciary, policymakers, community advocates, businesses and members of the public to examine prevention, enforcement, repeat DUI offenses, treatment, safe-ride programs and potential policy reforms.

The evening will begin with an interactive DUI Experience designed to demonstrate the real-world consequences of impaired driving. Attendees will have opportunities to learn about field sobriety testing, legal and financial consequences, victim impact, prevention strategies and safe-ride programs.

Expert panels will then explore the challenges Montana faces in addressing impaired driving. Participants are expected to include professionals from law enforcement, prosecution, treatment courts, community advocacy and the hospitality industry. Discussion will focus on what is working, where gaps remain and how prevention, enforcement and policy can work together more effectively.

Community input will also play an important role. Attendees will have opportunities to share ideas and provide feedback on potential approaches to impaired driving, repeat offenses and roadway safety as policy conversations begin ahead of the 2027 legislative session.

The summit is hosted by Representative Courtenay Sprunger in partnership with the Flathead County DUI Task Force, Glacier Bank, Montana Bar Fairies and the Montana Tavern Association.
