Pledge to donate 2025 salary

Courtenay Sprunger

I pledge to donate my legislative salary in 2025 to a new taskforce in formation to tackle the crisis of Montana’s Missing Indigenous People, who are being hunted on our reservations. This donation is not only to a worthy cause but it is important to me in keeping with the integrity of my votes and statements on the House Floor. If for any reason the task force is not completed through the legislative process, I will donate to a similar group serving this cause in 2025.

I encourage my fellow Montana legislators who are able, to consider doing the same or donating in some part to this cause or another. This provides a large offset for any

increases I would receive through salaries in future sessions. In 2023, it was a privilege to also donate my per diem increase that I voted against for use in starting an after school tutoring program at Flathead High School in the name of my father, Gary Burt, who taught at FHS for thirty years.

Last week, I spoke against a large pay increase for Montana legislators starting in 2027 and voted for an amendment to significantly address this issue in the larger bill. Unfortunately, I was in the minority and the amendment did not pass. However, this pay increase for legislators was included in the MT State Pay plan, which provides an important increase for our hardworking state workers, too. Given this, I voted for the amendment and then for the overall bill, in respect to our state workers and their hard work. Inflation is real and I think these folks deserve our support.

It is my belief that Leaders Eat Last - and we have a lot of work to do to see our law enforcement officers, teachers, and other civil servants taken care of before we give ourselves a raise.

Here’s to our Montana ~
